Welcome to the Nottinghamshire Wolds, a lovely area of rolling countryside with far-reaching views which surround us here in Keyworth.

Criss-crossing them is a wide network of country lanesfootpaths and bridleways, many leading to the surrounding rural villages where you will often find old cottages, beautiful churches, some wonderful wildlife and interesting nooks and crannies!

These walks were originally published in 'Rambles with Refreshments', a booklet put together by several members of the Keyworth Environment Group in 2014. Here, they have been brought up to date and made available to the latest media.

We have selected nine, easy to follow cross-country routes to guide you to a variety of local pubs, cafes and garden centres, offering welcome refreshment before you make the return trip to Keyworth.

Walking in the open air is a wonderfully sociable way to spend quality time with family and friends, as well as being great exercise, and including one of these destinations on your outing will make the trip even more enjoyable. Children will like searching for marker posts and other way points, as well as looking out for wildlife while adults have a chance for a good ‘natter’. What more glorious way to spend a sunny day than exploring our attractive local country footpaths, lanes and byways?

No special equipment is needed – just a pair of stout shoes or boots (some of the field paths can be muddy) and maybe a waterproof jacket if the weather looks doubtful. The routes are generally well way-marked, but an Ordnance Survey map of the local area might also be useful, especially if you decide to check out an alternative path, but our sketch maps will help to keep you on track.

Remember to check the opening times of your ‘refreshment’ destination to avoid disappointment.

All the walking times and distances are approximate and are measured from The Square, so a bit of adjustment may be needed if you start from a different location in the village. The maps are not to scale.

We hope you enjoy getting out and about to explore all the interesting places that you may not normally get to see when driving around in a car whilst at the same time giving local businesses a boost!
